What is Convert?

Convert simplifies the crypto conversion process by eliminating the need for multiple trades or frequent asset transfers between accounts, providing you with a seamless experience. It also allows you to exchange crypto at a lower threshold than the spot market.

How does Convert differ from spot trading, and why is the price different?

Convert uses a quoting model instead of the order-matching model used in spot trading. You accept a quoted price and receive the amount shown in the preview, so the transaction isn't matched against an order book and no separate trading fee line is charged on it.The quoted price isn't the spot market price. The quote includes a spread, and it reflects the size of the conversion, current volatility, and the liquidity available for the two assets at that moment. This is why a conversion can return less than the spot price suggests even when no fee is displayed. Compare the amount in the preview with the spot market price before you confirm, and use spot trading instead if you want to set your own price and see the fee charged separately.

How do I use Convert?

Open Convert, select the asset you're converting from and the asset you're converting into, enter an amount, then review the quoted rate and the amount you'll receive before you confirm. For the full walkthrough on web and in the app, see the Convert FAQ.

Which crypto can I convert on OKX?

Convert works between assets that have a conversion route available to your account at the moment you convert. To check a specific conversion, open Convert, select the asset you're converting from, and look at the drop-down list of assets you can convert into. That drop-down list and the preview are the current source of truth for a pair, so check them there rather than assuming a route from a spot market or from an earlier conversion. If a route isn't offered for the two assets you want, converting into a widely quoted asset first and then into the asset you want can open a route that a direct conversion doesn't have. Each conversion is quoted separately, so a two-step conversion is quoted twice. You can review prices for listed assets on the OKX markets page.

Is Simple buy & sell the same thing as Convert?

Simple buy & sell is sometimes called Convert, and from your side the two work the same way: you're shown a locked quote and you receive the amount in the preview, rather than placing an order into an order book. If you used Simple buy & sell and expected an order-book fill at the spot market price, the difference you're seeing is the quoted price, not a change made to your order type. For a side-by-side comparison of the two flows, see How do Simple buy & sell and spot trading differ?

What's the minimum and maximum amount I can convert into a single transaction?

The minimum is close to zero, so a small balance can still be converted. The maximum depends on the asset and on the conditions applying to your account at that moment, so it isn't a fixed number and it can differ between two conversions of the same asset. Enter an amount and select Convert to preview it. If the amount you entered is above the current maximum, lower the amount and preview again, or convert the balance in several transactions. Each transaction is quoted separately, so splitting a conversion means accepting more than one quote.

Why is my total balance lower after converting?

Start with the quote. Convert prices each conversion with a quote that includes a spread and reflects size, volatility, and the liquidity available at that moment, so the value you receive can be below what the spot price suggests even when no trading fee is shown. Converting the same balance several times applies that effect once per conversion. Then compare your total balance with your available balance. Funds committed to open orders, Earn subscriptions, margin, or a running bot are still part of your total but aren't free to convert, so a balance can look like it has gone when it's only committed. Review those commitments before treating the difference as missing funds. If the quote and the commitments don't account for the difference, open the conversion in your order history and note the transaction ID, the amount sent, the amount received, and the time, then contact support with those details.
